Not All Good Earthly Things are Given to People by God

God gives people earthly temporal things, like jobs, marriages, families, food and money. However, not all earthly things are from God. Some are from the devil. In fact, for much of the time, most earthly things that people have are from the devil. So, how can one discern whether what one has is truly from God, or from the devil? If God has given something to a person, it is either for him or her to sustain himself or herself to do the Will of God, or to use for God's glory in serving God and others. Anything that God gives to a person is ultimately for His glory, and not for that person to indulge in, enjoy in and of itself, show others, or to use to gain power and control over others.  For Philippians 2:3-4 says:" Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. " Many professing followers of Christ constantly ...

Boasting about Your so-called "Blessings" leads to Hell

Many in the modern Western church love to talk about how "blessed" they are, because they have a nice house, luxury car, fulfilling well-paying job with good work conditions, good marriage, and good children, regular holidays, and a big network of friends. Such is a false and deception view of what it means to be truly blessed, which has taken the Church by storm. Their boasting, they think, is a means of glorifying God, but it is not. It is an abomination to God: Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished (Proverbs 16:5). Woe to you who love to boast about your so-called "blessings", and parade it in front of everyone. You may think you are so favoured by God because of what you have, but you are not. You are full of perversion and pride. You think God loves you more than the believers in the poorer nations, because you have more wealth, health and prosperity? You think you have a spe...

The Curse of Vain Speech which Incites Envy and Jealousy

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh ! (Matthew 18:4-7)  Many in the modern Church are causing their fellow saints to stumble by their vain speech and idle babbling, all without knowing. The Bible has much to say about speech. Speech itself has an effect on the hearer, not merely emotionally or psychologically, but spiritually. Indeed, " death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof" (Proverbs 18:21). The mere listening to, or in the case of the internet, the re...

How to Kill Envy and Jealousy

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live (Romans 8:13). Jealousy and envy are the most pervasive sins. They are the sins which literally every person commits, including 'moral and decent' people who do not indulge in sexual immorality, live lifestyles of crass materialism, and practice drunkenness. Such things are vile sins and deserve death, but so are jealousy and envy, which are sins of the flesh: Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry (Colossians 3:5) Just like the sins of sexual immorality, one must put to death jealousy and envy, or else one will die and go to Hell. The Bible commands us to put to death the deeds of the flesh (Romans 8:13). So, how can one put to death the sin of jealousy and envy? 1.  Wholeheartedly pursue God and His Kingdom, and not your ow...

Competitiveness is the Manifestation of Coveteousness which brings the Wrath of God

But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;   Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. (Ephesians 5:3-7) The modern Church rightly condemns sexual immorality, as an abomination to God. Yet, the sin of covetousness receives no where near the same condemnation as sexual immorality of all kinds, be it fornication, adultery, or pornography, with the exception of the sin of homosexuality which many in the modern Church are reluctant to condemn as an abomination. Covetousness is in the same category of sexual immorality. L...

The Ensnaring Power of Envy and Jealousy

We live in a world full of people who love to make others envious or jealous of them. Such people cannot rest until they makes others envious or jealous of them. Whenever they fall to make others envious or jealous of them, they are full of anger, and hate the person who they seek to stir up envy or jealousy in, all the more. Such is the perversion of envy and jealousy. Advertising is the most obvious example. It feeds on the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life (1 John 2:16), seeking to promise fulfillment of such things, but yet being only too delighted to show that one cannot. That is exactly how envy and jealousy work. They not only thrive on, but love to only show people seeking to fulfill their lusts and pride, how they cannot find such fulfillment, whereas another can. Jealous and envy make a person spiritually weak because just as death and destruction are never satisfied, the same is with the lust of the eyes: Hell and destruction are never full; so the ey...

The Curse of Envy and Covetousnss on Those who Love Mammon

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch (Proverbs 11:28). Many in the modern Church in the west think that money is a sign of "blessing". They like to say, "God has blessed me with a new car",  "I am so blessed with a new house, or even "we [local church] are so blessed to have a new building", despite being in millions of dollars of debt for a "newer", "bigger", "better" building. Such is the case of many in the western Church who are totally under the spirit of mammon, and do not even realise it. People from "protest"-ant denominations love to quote how countries with a former "protest"-ant influence are richer and more educated, as if it was sign that shows how good the Christian faith is for the world, and why the unsaved should believe in Christ. We might not think that that is the spirit which which such a statement is normally made, but that i...

Partiality Towards the Poor is Itself a Manifestation of the spirit of Mammon

It is embedded in western psyche that one should be full of sympathy towards the needy, and side them , just because they are the underdog. I call it the "underdog sympathy complex". Australia is a country with such a complex, as Australians love to side with the underdog, and love to despise those who are elite. This may seem like compassion, empathy and fairness, which is what Australians love to think of themselves to be, and think they are entitled to. However, the underdog sympathy complex is not compassion, empathy, fairness or justice. It is nothing but favouritism towards the poor and needy, from selfish fear that one will be in that position oneself. This leads to what many Christians in the west call 'socialistic' thinking.  The socialistic thinking that many in the west have towards the poor and needy is earthly thinking, as it thinks that what people ultimately need is to have the basic human needs, instead of that Jesus is not only what people need, bu...
