The Abundant Life is Not the Materially Comfortable Life, But Life full of True Worship in Spirit and in Truth

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth (Luke 12:15). Many people in the modern professing Church think that having an abundant life means to work hard for one's job or career, get married and have children, buy a house, buy a car, earn as much income as one can, take as many holidays as one can, and be an influential well-respected member of society and one's circles.   They think that this all shows how "blessed" they are, that it is a sign of God's favour to them because of their righteousness and holiness. They are smug behind all their material comfort and think that those who have less than them, or who lack something they have, or are suffering are less holy and righteous than them, all without realising it. They think they are more worthy in God's eyes than those who have less than them, or who lack something they have, out of their prid...

Beware the Cares in the World Choking out the Word

Many in the modern Church say that practicing self-denial, by not striving after any earthly treasures or pleasures, but rather, letting God give one such things as He pleases, in His timing and in the way He chooses, is ascetism. They call it ascetism in denouncing such as mindset as legalistic or pharasical.  The essence of ascetism is not self-denial, but in seeking to be righteous by one's own works through self-denial, as opposed to trusting in Jesus' righteousness. They may say that if one is able to practice self-denial in such a way, then that is good, but that it is not necessary to please God to do so. Therein lies the deception that one does not need to practice self-denial. What part of Jesus' teaching that " If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me " (Matthew 16:24) is so hard to understand? Let me tell you what is so hard to underst and about that teaching. It is that people cannot accept that but ...

The Modern Church's Despicable Idolatry of Marriage and Family

One of the most irksome things in the modern Church in the west is its idolatry of marriage and family. They treat these things as though one must be married and have a family to be saved, often without realising that is exactly what their thinking is. As such, they make many unmarried Christians, or those who may be married but have no children or grandchild feel that they are less blessed, less favoured by God, or even cursed.  Many married Christians of the older generation, out of fear of how the culture has perverted single, love to warn single Christians about their impending loneliness in old age owing to their singleness, as if a person who is married could never be lonely in his or her old age. It is not that a Christian who remains single has no family. Rather, his family is his Church family. Every other saint is his mother, brother and sister: And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. And he answered...

Careerism is Unbiblical, Worldly and Very Easy to Fall Into

Many in the modern western Church rightly regard careerism as worldly. Careerism can be defined as a pursuit to achieve earthly professional or business success for personal glory. It is an achievement-orientated pursuit that is focused on earthly achievements. It craves for the fame one can have in one's profession, the money, and thrives on pride in achieve what one can achieve in one's own strength.  There is a difference between working hard and careerism. A person may be a very diligent and wise worker who strives to serve his employer, but not be a careerist. A careerist may be one who is not a truly hard worker and faithful servant of his employer, but be one who is lazy and unfaithful to his employer, but yet "succeeds" in obtaining promotions because of his flattery of his boss. However, careerism need not be so outwardly crass, where all one does is seek earthly achievements. As long as one treats one's work as the ultimate means of satisfaction or s...

Earthly Wealth is an Illusion. Money has Wings. Do Not be Seduced by the False 'Security' of Earthly Wealth

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven (Proverbs 23:5). If there is one thing that everyone is concerned about, it is financial security. Not a fulfilling career, luxury cars, houses, relationships, or leisure, but financial security. It is simply so natural to the flesh to be concerned about earthly financial security, and set one's mind on such. Christian commentator Ted Shoebat of shoebat.com wrote on his facebook page: The conventional perception on wealth is an illusion. Just because you have a lot does not make you wealthy. True wealth is a life without debt, a simple life, and a life living within one's means. Indeed, Mr Shoebat is correct. The conventional perception of wealth is that of possession and money amassed to some 'sufficient level', such that one can be financially 'secure'. Well my friends, let me tell you this: there is nothing secure ...

Worldly peace is not peace at all

The world thinks that its peace is true peace, or would like to think it is. They want to think that the evil things they love will give them peace, not because of intellectual ignorance, but because of their love of the world and hatred of God, manifesting itself as faithlessness.   The modern Church is very much influenced by the world, not because of the world, which can but only promote its godlessness, lovelessness and faithlessness. No. It is because the Church has allowed itself to be influenced by the world, in ways that it does not even realise that it is weak, useless to God and irrelevant to the world - not because it is the world's fault, but the Church's own fault. Jesus said to His followers: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.   Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.    Let your light so shine before men, that they ...
