Nothing has changed since. There are still many such people today.  A person need not be a cult member or leader unstable and ignorant. Modern western society loves to talk about "justice" and gets involved in all kinds of activism to fight for what it calls "justice".  It claims to hate violence and care for children, yet thinks that slaughtering babies in the womb a woman's "right", "choice", a human "right", "healthcare" or "convenience". It claims to believe in human dignity, but yet thinks that pornography is acceptable.  Even if a person in modern society hates pornography for its disrespect of human dignity, it hates it only for selfish reasons, but yet thinks that 'erotica' is acceptable because it is "respectful". It selects the type of pornography it thinks to be acceptable, as if the morality and ethics of pornography depends on the situation.  This is a manifestation of double-mindedness, in wanting to select what moral principles one wants to believe in to justify one's own sins. The secular world disdains those who oppose their false, vile, and abominable ideas about peace, which are that peace comes from tolerating deviancy, which it calls "lifestyle choice", 'equality', which is really just envy, and thus, a vain concept itself and "rights" which is a manifestation of pride and self-centred. There are those, including many Christians think that fighting for “human rights” is about righteousness and justice. There are also those who think the fight for “human rights” has merely been perverted by 21 st century human rights movement, and is no longer what it should be. Both of these views of human rights are based on deception, deception that a human being is entitled to things. It is not just that the view that human rights come from society that is wrong. It is the view that humans have entitlements at all that is wrong. Many in the modern western Church love to talk about their “rights” and still believe that there is nothing wrong with the doctrine of “rights”. One would think that the greatest opposition to the abolition of abortion would be, of course, abortion "rights" activists. However, no, the greatest opposition to the total abolition of abortion are the incrementalist pro-lifers, most of whom profess Christ, who seek to prescribe how abortion is to be done, by whom and when, but not ABOLISH it. In the Old Testament, the Israelites, while they offered sacrifices to God, also at the same time offered sacrifices the molech, the "god" or demon, of child sacrifice.  Such is the double-mindedness of the Old Testament Jews, most of whom were unbelievers. However, just because one is not an unbeliever does not mean that one cannot fall into such double-mindedness. The Church of Laodicea was full of such double-mindedness. There has been much confusion in the modern Church about what it means to serve God and not serve mammon. Good, Biblical pastors have said that the modern Church is full of people, true converts, who are trying to serve both God and mammon. What this means to try to serve both God and mammon is to on one hand, serve God, while on the other, still desire to serve oneself. This failure to understand what it means to serve both God and God alone, that is, to serve God only and not mammon, comes from the darkness that still resides in the hearts of many in the modern Church.  A person may a true follower of Christ, but still yet have some blindness and darkness in his heart as he is still not sanctified, or sanctified enough. He may think that he can somewhat serve both God and mammon, not in his mind, but in his heart.
