There are many professing teachers of the Word of God, who claim to serve God. 1 Peter 2:1-2 warns:
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
Indeed, there are many false teachers who claim to be servants of God but are really just servants of the devil. Anyone who has heard the teachings of many different teachers will have encountered a false teacher.
The purpose of a teacher is to edify the body of Christ so that she may come into the knowledge of Christ in the fullness of Christ:
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
(Ephesians 4:11-16).
A teacher is to teach the truth who is Christ (John 14:6). Therefore, any teacher who not only teaches falsehood about Jesus, but fails to preach Christ and calls himself or herself a teacher is a false teacher.
Such false teachers teach their own doctrine, much of which may be mixed with the truth about Christ. It is this very mix which is poison for the soul, and which leads to damnation. Anyone who follows the false teaching of such false teachers will be led astray from Christ and into Hellfire. If a teacher who teaching you are heeding is a false teacher, flee, lest you enter the fires of Hell with him or her.
A false teacher can be discerned from a true teacher. Ask God to give you discernment to discern the false teachers. If a teacher is teaching doctrines that are not found in the Bible like that of "spiritual covering", "spiritual fathers and mothers" and "kings and queens", flee! For such are false teachers.
If a teacher is fixated on a doctrine other than Jesus Christ, such as creation, Biblical gender roles, marriage and family, and does not preach Christ Himself, he or she is a false teacher.
If a teacher claims that something which is not needed for salvation, is needed for salvation, such as the doctrine that one needs to be married and have a family to be saved, he or she is a false teacher.
Run from such false teachers!
