Usury is an issue that is so hard to understand. Much of this is because of its spiritual nature - it is by its very nature a spiritual issue. To understand why it is a sin, one must look to the spirit behind it and the spirit in which usury is charged.
Usury by its very nature is against giving freely, that which Jesus commanded. In Luke 6:35, Jesus said "But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil". Regarding any issue relating to stewardship, finance and economics, one must understand the spiritual nature the practice.
One cannot in any way look at the issue from a mere economic or social perspective, not only because such perspectives are earthly. One must always understand the spirit of such practice to understand the ethics and morality of finance, and economics because such things by themselves are not wrong in themselves. They are not like issues such as abortion, euthanasia and homosexual "marriage" where it is obvious to any Christian that these things are wrong in themselves.
However, finance and economics are different. Finance and economics are both philosophies, from which acts are derived. Every philosophy of itself, however, has an ethic and morality. Whether it is a good or bad ethic or morality is a different matter. Each philosophy has a spirit behind it. False doctrines, whether of professed Bible teachers or openly anti-Christs have an evil spirit behind it (1 Timothy 4:1). The financial or economic practices of a person are a manifestation of the spirit in which he or she is under, and also reflective of his or her heart.
Usury needs to the understand from a spiritual perspective for one to understand that it is an abomination in the eyes of God (Ezekiel 18:13). God is the same yesterday, today and forever more, so His hatred of usury has not changed. It is absolute blasphemy to even think for a moment that usury is supported by God, or that God makes excuses for it.
The role of the Church is to proclaim the Truth and to "cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5). To not cast down lies from the world and anything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God is to commit the grave sin of omission. James 4:17 makes this clear: "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin".
The truth of the Word of God is that usury is sin. So, Church, wake up and attack usury!
The spirit behind usury is mammon who has gained not only a stronghold over the world, but who controls, dominates, manipulates, intimidates and enslaved the whole world from his "almighty", "sovereign" palace. His palace is the modern "almighty", "sovereign" bank.
That is why this blog was written: to expose mammon and his deceitful, vile schemes. It is to wake up the sleeping Church who is as blind as a bat regarding the spirit behind usury which even the unsaved can sense.
