There is much adoration of the family among American Christians and also Australian Christians. Many ministries such as Focus on the Family are centred around this gift from God. However, the modern church is increasing treating the family as an idol. There is no doubt that the family is a gift from God and a good thing. As such, this is all the more the reason why the family can turn into a idol, and why satan and mammon seeks to attack it.
There is much fascination with the family among American and Australian Christians, in particular, the American Christians who are part of the 'conservative movement'. The family has not gone unnoticed by the unsaved, secular liberals. In fact, it has been under the close scrutiny of these secular liberals who are seeking to undermine, attack and abolish the family.
Firstly, the term 'traditional' family is from the false dichotomy of the traditional way of the family, as opposed to the modern family. There is only one type of family - that which is instituted by God: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth (Genesis 1:28).
Secondly, the only right sexual relationship is that between a married man and woman. All others are a subversion of what God instituted - a vile hatred of God, whether it is polygamy, bestiality or homosexuality.
The family has been used as a pretext by many professing Christians to seek after their own earthly needs. They twist 1 Timothy 5:8 which says: "if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel" to justify their desire for earthly comfort. Such is hostility against God by the church. For a Christian to twist the Bible is to resist Jesus the Husband of His Bride, the Church. The church's twisting of Bible verses to overemphasis some truths at the expense of another is like a wive beating her husband who has offered to lay down his life for her. Such is spiritual adultery.

Jesus said: "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple" (Luke 14:26). Yes, this means to give up your family to follow Jesus.
