Mammon is a Gospel-issue. Why? Jesus said that: " If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me" (Matthew 16:24). Mammon is the spirit against self-denial. Self-denial to follow Jesus alone is the heart of the Gospel.
The reason why Jesus had to die for our sins in the first place is because of the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and pride of life that unregenerate sinners seek after and live for. Mammon thrives and feeds on these three vile things. That is why mammon is a Gospel-issue.
Mammon is behind everything that hates God. 1 Timothy 6:10 says: "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." This is what the world does, seeking after worldly contentment in things that do not last. Such is itself the hatred of God. It is the attitude that one needs anything, but not God.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
