Response to a Critic of 'Capitalism's False Ethic of Giving' (2)

The paragraphs in green enclosed in square brackets are those of the critic. My response in purple is interspersed in between. [Free market economies work best and allow the most freedom to obey God's commands] This supposedly professing Christian is looking to the worldly systems, and praising it. The Bible commands “ Love not the world, neither the things   that are  in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15). [I think Karl Marx created the word capitalism...] The identity of the person who came up with the word ‘capitalism’ is irrelevant as to whether it is unethical and moral. [In America, there is a hugely unfair distortion of our money supply by the "Federal" "Reserve" which is sometimes called "capitalism" but which is really unconstitutional "legalized" theft by a private corporation.] This is the freedom from capitalism that this person claims to so love. Is Capitalism Morally Bankrupt? 5 moral flaws and their consequences

Many Christians accept Capitalism as broadly in line with biblical teaching. Its economic success appears to vindicate attribution of its origins to Christian theology. This confidence in Capitalism as the best available economic system has meant that Christians have failed to recognise that it is one of the main drivers of social and moral breakdown in Western societies. This paper will highlight five failings in the philosophical foundations and institutions of Corporate Capitalism, pointing to their devastating impact on families and communities, and how they bring about the growth of giant corporations and centralised state power. Christians need to search urgently for a new economic order based on biblical revelation. One such alternative will be set out in a future issue of  Cambridge Papers . Christians under the Spirit of Mammon

Money is not evil – the love of money (greed) is evil and sinful. The free market is simply the best system we have in a fallen world to allow for the free exchange of goods and services in the most efficient and fair manner. That this system can be abused is true of everything on earth: we are all fallen, so everything we do will not be perfect. So in a fallen world there is no perfect political or economic system. End of story. We seek to make do with the best that fallen men can utilise, guided and aided by God and his word. Capitalism of course is not evil. Its misuse can make it become evil, but on biblical grounds it is the best economic system we can adhere to in a fallen world, affirming as it does such biblical principle as private property and ownership, economic growth, voluntary exchange, and so on . - A theologian and a Bible college teacher Yes, it is true that money is not evil and that the free market is the best system in the fallen world. It is because of greed a...
