In order to abolish usury, abortion, pornography, or prostitution or any other evils of the age, the Church must first of all rise up as only the Church has the way of truth to offer, having received itself by grace from the Lord Jesus Christ: Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:31-32).
While the unsaved can no doubt recognise evil as evil, they fight evil by using the arms of the flesh for they trust not in God. Psalm 20:7 describes those who do not trust in God: Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. All things the unsaved do is of the flesh, using the arms of the flesh to do what they seek to achieve. Their motives are always sinful, and ultimately self-centred in fighting evil, whatever evil they may be trying to fight because their minds are hostile to God and do not nor cannot submit to God's Law (Romans 8:7-8). For example, the early feminists were opposed to 'abortion', or more rightly called baby-murder, not for righteous reasons of course, but for selfish reasons. Many people who follow false religions are opposed to usury, but out of legalism, not out of love for God and others.
Usury, and any other evil of the age must be abolished by the Church not only realising that the evil for what is truly is, but also realising that only by the Gospel of Jesus Christ can such evil be fought. For only by salvation through Jesus Christ who came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) can evil in a person be conquered and put to death. Only by the changed hearts and minds of the masses, through being changed by the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, can any evil of the age be conquered. Without changed hearts and minds, all efforts in fighting evil are in vain for evil comes from the heart itself (Jeremiah 17:9; Matthew 15:18-19; Mark 7:21).
That is why abolitionists of usury, or abortion, or whatever it is, must reach out to the culture to change the hearts and minds of people, by bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in conflict with the evils of the age.
Abolishing evils must start with the Church, for only she has the truth and has seen the light. O Church, wake up to the evils of the age, rise up and bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ in conflict with the evils of the age.
