The Spirtual Powers Behind Usury are Actively Seeking to Corrupt People Even More than they Already Are
Usury is not merely some transaction between people where one borrows money and the other lenders and charges interest. It has a real spiritual dimension behind it, with all manner of spiritual darkness working through the world's system of usury. It is far darker than we can imagine. Just as child sacrifice, called 'abortion' has real dark spiritual powers working behind it to encourage child sacrifice, who promote demonic doctrines to those sinners who support abortion, for which a demon is responsible for the doctrine, that same is with usury.
Behind every doctrine which justifies or tolerates usury is a demon. That demon is responsible for the doctrine it spreads to people. There is a real such as thing as a doctrine of demons: "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils" (1 Timothy 4:1). There is also a such thing as seducing spirits who seek to encourage more evil and wickedness in people, and enslave them to it even more than they already are to do the will of the devil.
Satan holds people captive by his lies. 2 Timothy 2:25-26 gives instructions for how to deal with opponents of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, held captive by satan to do his will:
In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
It is telling Timothy to correct the errors that people have in the minds. This is because satan holds people captive to do his will by feeding them lies and then holding them in bondage to such lies once they believe and commit to such lies.
There have been many lies and half-truths that people, including many highly-respected leaders in Christendom, have perpetuated. One such lie is that of John Calvin. John Calvin said that it was only excessive usury, but not usury itself that is a sin. Nothing could be further from the truth. What makes this lie all the more despicable is its double-mindedness, in seeking for oneself to be protected from the bondage of usury, but yet at the same time supporting it. That is exactly what makes this lie from the Pit of Hell even more disgusting, abominable and despicable than the lie that usury, at not matter what amount is legitimate, such as that told by Jeremy Bentham, a liberal utilitarian. Bentham, unlike Calvin, was not double-minded in his support of usury as he supported it, without regard for its amount. This is, however, by no means to give Bentham any credit for his stance on usury.
Usury has a real spiritual power behind it. It is not simply some 'norm' of life. That usury is now a norm should disturb every true follower of Christ. Just as every true follower of Christ should be disturbed that child-sacrifice, and divorce are now the norms, he should also be just as disturbed about usury being a norm in the modern world.
Usury feeds on the love of money, and therefore the hatred of God of usurers. It seduces people to seek money, and trust in money. This should be obvious to the true follower of Christ, however, this is not the case. Many in the modern western Church make the false distinction between love of money and support or tolerance of usury. Usury is the love of money, not just its manifestation, but the love of money and therefore, being the love the money, the hatred of God itself. As Jesus said: "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matthew 6:24).
The love of money or mammon is itself the hatred of God. Sin is the hatred of God itself. Thus, it is very clear that usury is sin.
It is time the Church follow the wisdom of God, rather than the wisdom of the world, and stop perverting the Word of God to justify usury as it has been doing for four centuries, all in front of a watching world.
