But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; And
they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as
though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed
not; And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away (1 Corinthians 7:29-31).
Seeking the peace and comfort of this world is itself to be earthly. It is of the love of the world. That is why the Christian must live as if he has nothing. To enjoy the peace and comfort of the world is itself to not trust God.
It is because many Christians in the west do enjoy and peace and comfort of the world that God has allowed them to have that they cannot fully serve God. They treat God's earthly provision as their "right". It is not a right. It is grace alone. To treat it as as right is vile blasphemy and the height of all pride.
They are under the spirit of mammon, having their minds concerned with earthly things, while seeking to serve God as the same time, thinking it is totally legitimate. My friends, no one can serve God and mammon (Matthew 6:24). This means no one can care for earthly things, while care for the things of God.
Shun all earthly comfort and seek the righteousness of God.
