How to know if you are under the spirit of mammon

Many Christians think they could not possibly ever be under the spirit of mammon. However, this is exactly what mammon's deception of the church is. To be under it, does NOT mean to live to serve it as one's master like the unsaved do. Rather, it means to be succumbing to his seductive wiles and the anxiety he seeks to invoke in the true Christian. That is what is means.

So, how do you know if you are under the spirit of mammon?

The following questions must be asked by each person of oneself:

  1. Are you anxious in even the slightest bit for earthly comfort, or even for fulfillment of earthly duties?
  2. Do you believe you can serve God as Lord while thinking that devoting your time to other things that He may or may not have called you to do can be a substitute for serving God the Father?
  3. Do you believe that God promises to give those who obey Him their so-called basic earthly "needs"?
  4. Do earthly things give you fulfillment of your soul and spirit?
  5. Do you find it hard to give up some time or money to serve God and devote time to God?
  6. Do you think giving and earning money is an earthly need you must pursue in your strength?
  7. Do you think that having more money, prosperity or earthly comfort means you are more blessed?
If you said yes to any one of these questions, you are under the spirit of mammon.
