The world, which is of satan is seduced by him through lusting for the flesh. The flesh has evil desires that all people know it should not succumb to, but does so. These evil desires that are contrary to God's nature is the lust of the flesh. The flesh refers to the carnal mind, that is, the mind of the natural person who is born only of the flesh, not the Spirit. The mind of the natural person is darkness. All his thoughts, which control his heart will be dark.
This natural person, because he is spiritually blind as he chooses his own way, is controlled by the sinful nature of the flesh. As a result, he is unable to not sin. He drinks iniquity like water (Job 15:16). Sin controls him like a master controls his slave. He is a slave of sin, and it is not in his nature to do good or right in the eyes of God.
There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). Following the flesh leads to death. That is why one must be crucified with Christ before one can receive eternal life.
